Hi Dr. Rivera,
Can you please describe the criteria for the Philosophy of Teaching paper.
(Is it similar to the criteria for the reaction papers?)

  1. Tish,

As indicated in our syllabus, focus on the following:

Submit a philosophy of teaching that reflects your understanding and commitment to issues related to culturally and linguistically diverse students. Your philosophy statement should reflect your core beliefs, values, and views with regard to ESL teaching. It should display the ideals that you want to promote as an educator of children from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, as an advocate for ESOL students and partnerships with students’ families. Your philosophy should be grounded in your personal views as well as your theoretical knowledge base. Use citations to support the theoretical underpinnings of your philosophy. Philosophy should include your vision of yourself as a life-long teacher and learner. Who are you now as a classroom teacher? Or if you are not teaching, how do you envision yourself as a classroom teacher? How will you continue to grow and develop professionally?

In addition, ensure that your essay is 2 pages, double spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman. I hope this clarifies things. Keep me posted, if anything.

    Best regards,
    Dr. Rivera
