Teaching the ESL learner

This clip shows a resources that may be of assistance for ESL teachers. The last half of the clip focuses on a demonstration of learning concepts. The teacher uses gestures to allow the learners to connects a new concept with something they already know. In teaching the word "shutters", the instructor uses the students' knowledge of window and uses a comparison to their bodies to assist in comprehending the new words. The teacher was effective because the student was able to define the term. This strategy can be used for all learners, but would especially help the ESL learners.

  1. TPR is definitely an excellent method to use, especially with beginner level students. Thank you for sharing. I hope we can find more videos that demonstrate different strategies that will be useful to all learners, especially for ESL students.

  2. A wonderful video. I think that the more students use all of their senses in learning a new concept, the easier it is for them to remember it. This concept is a great use of this.

  3. This was a very good video and the instructional strategy used was effective. Using the five senses to help in the learning process will help students to learn new terms of even concepts. I will definitely try it in my classroom.

  4. Very good video. Using gestures to teach the new word or new concept is a great strategy to use in the class. I also like the fact, that the video showed a website where teachers can go to and post their assignments and do discussion just like what we are doing right now. Getting feedback from other teachers and colleagues is a great way to improve your teaching skills.
